Tea, soda, and especially coffee are some of my favorite things to drink. I don’t drink soda often, but over the years I’ve had my fair share! Coffee and tea are something I drink daily, though. I’ve never thought my teeth NEEDED to be whitened, but I’ve always wanted to get them professionally done because I knew it would make a huge difference and take years of staining off of my teeth. I never pulled the plug though, because the process was SO expensive and somewhat inconvenient.
In the past, I’ve tried Crest White Strips, which have worked a bit, but to be honest, I had to stop after a couple of days because my teeth hurt so bad! They’re also super uncomfortable because they slide all over your teeth and don’t stay put. I tried them for a second time recently because I figured, it’s 2017, maybe they’ve gotten better……but no.

THE PROCESS:
Smile Brilliant will send you an at-home kit so that you can make the molds of your top and bottom teeth. The kit consists of 3 sets of material to make your teeth molds (with directions), the whitening gel, desensitizing gel, and a pre-paid envelope so that you can easily mail off your molds so that your teeth trays can be made.
When you’re ready to make your molds, you mix the Base Paste (blue) with the Catalyst Paste (white) until it’s all one color. But move fast! The paste will harden pretty quickly, so be sure to read the directions and FOLLOW them before you start. I love that Smile Brilliant includes one extra set just in case you mess up (which I did the first time haha).
After I mailed off my molds, I had my new custom teeth trays within a little over a week! It was a really quick and easy process.
THE WHITENING
When I got my custom whitening trays in for my top and bottom teeth, I started whitening right away! The kit comes with plenty of whitening and desensitizing gel and even includes enough for you to touch up after you’ve completed the whitening.
For my first session, I kept the trays on for 45 minutes just to see how it felt, and then followed up with the desensitizing gel for 20 minutes. When I first put the trays on, I could feel my teeth getting sensitive, but then after a couple of minutes that went away. The trays were super comfortable, since they’re custom fitted, and I almost forgot I had them on! I will say that my teeth were a bit sensitive the next day (which is normal), so I stuck to whitening every other day rather than daily. You can definitely try it daily if your teeth aren’t too prone to sensitivity. Even though my teeth were a bit sensitive, it was definitely minor, and it was very tolerable.
I recommend whitening after you’ve eaten dinner and don’t plan to eat anything for the rest of the night, but that was just my personal preference.
THE RESULTS
After my first whitening session, I could already see the difference! I completed 11 sessions of whitening, but honestly, you could probably get away with doing 8 sessions and still see a huge difference. I am SO beyond happy with the results.
