Hi, guys! I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited to write a post, except when I wrote my scary movie post last Halloween. Today, I’m going to be talking all about my favorite shows to watch on Netflix! I don’t know about you, but binging a Netflix show is probably one of my favorite things to do and I must say I am very good at it lol. So I thought it would be fun to share which shows are my top picks, in case you’re looking for one to start. This list includes all different types of shows, but I will preface it by saying that I am a huge lover of thrillers, mysteries, and dramas so you will probably see a lot of that on this list haha. So let’s get to it!
Mindhunter : This is easily one of my favorite shows of all time. Two FBI agents basically develop serial killer profiling and help to solve murders along the way. If you know me, then you know that I am a true crime junkie, so I feel like this show was made for me! It does have a lot of dialogue, so if you’re not into that, then I’m not sure you would love it. But for me, it’s so captivating! Season 2 is airing soon and I believe it’s going to cover the BTK serial killer, which I am SO excited about.
Dexter : Another serial killer show lol. Dexter Morgan is a blood spatter expert for the Miami PD, but on his free time he’s a pretty successful killer. However, he only kills while following a certain code and doesn’t ever take an innocent life. No one knows about this second life he lives, so as the show goes on, many things unfold and it’s just so thrilling. If you haven’t seen this….GO NOW. The acting, the writing, the dialogue, the storyline….EVERYTHING about this show is genius. It doesn’t have the best ending ever, but still in my top 5 favorite shows of all time.
Stranger Things : In a small town of Indiana, a young boy goes missing. His mom starts an investigation into his disappearance and uncovers a secret government experiment that has to do with her son going missing. This is more of a sci-fi type of show, but believe me when I say it’s not your typical sci-fi! I personally am not into that type of thing, but this just got me hooked. It’s also set in the 80s, which is my vibe alwayyyyys haha.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina : Okay y’all, this is not for the faint of heart. I think you will either love this show or hate it. If you are expecting “Sabrina the Teenage Witch”, this is not at all like that lol. This show is much darker and incorporates a lot of demonic possession, dark magic, and witchcraft. If you are not into that, then don’t watch. I personally LOVE it and it actually reminds me a bit of Harry Potter with the spells, magic, and the darkness of how it’s filmed.
Shameless : In short, this show is basically about a super raunchy family and their problems lol. But as you watch, you get invested in the characters and what each of them is going through. It’s very raw and unapologetic, which I love.
Breaking Bad : A chemistry teacher finds out that he has terminal cancer and turns to cooking meth as his way to make fast money to pay for his treatments. I really love the character development in this show. You sort of gain an attachment to all of the characters because the acting is that good. I think this is one of those shows that ANYONE would love, no matter what kind of TV you like. Definitely a must-watch!
Ozark : Jacob and I just recently watched the first two seasons of this and we are HOOKED and can’t wait for the third season to air this Summer! First off, this is a role that you wouldn’t expect from Jason Bateman, and I LOVE IT. He plays a very smart financial planner who gets involved in a money laundering scheme for the Cartel which goes incredibly wrong. Now, in order to keep his family safe, he is forced to pay off that debt and gets himself in deeper and deeper with the Cartel. This show is really dark in terms of how it’s filmed, which I love, and there are so many twists and turns in the plot, which keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. I haven’t seen one boring episode!
The Office : A documentary style sitcom, and one that is SO relatable if you’ve ever worked in an office. Steve Carrell, the manager of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, is dry, inappropriate, and so undeniably funny. Actually, all of the characters are hilarious in their own way, and you will find that a lot of the show is them pranking each other. All of the characters are like a dysfunctional family, and you can’t imagine one without the other. If you are looking for something that’s going to make you laugh, you HAVE to watch this show.
Gossip Girl : I haven’t finished this show yet, but I can already tell you that it’s one of my favorites to watch. I recently started it from the beginning and I love it, I don’t care how old I am lol. The show takes place in NYC’s Upper East Side where students at an exclusive prep school share scandals and lots of dramaaaa. A mystery blogger named “Gossip Girl” publishes these scandals for everyone to see and throws everyone’s dirty laundry out on the table.
Grey’s Anatomy : It might take you 4 years to finish this show since it’s never ending, but it’s so worth it! It takes you through the drama of all of the doctor’s at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital, their lives, and their relationships while they also deal with crazy medical traumas. You get so attached to the main characters because they all started the show as interns and grow into very prominent doctors. Each episode is an emotional rollercoaster and I love it.
Scandal : From the same creator of Grey’s Anatomy, this is another drama that I couldn’t stop watching once I started. The main character, Olivia Pope, runs her own firm where her and her team help people in crisis. She is also a former campaign manager to the president, so she’s very close to the White House and the president himself. There are so many twists and turns in this show and so many “omg” moments. It’s such a great drama!
Good Girls : This is a fairly new show but it’s soooo good! Three women who are very close friends (2 are sisters) come into financial trouble and decide to come together and rob a grocery store. Well, they end up stealing from the wrong person and they get pulled into a sticky money laundering situation. The characters work so well together and have such great chemistry. It’s suspenseful, funny, real, and just such a great, entertaining show. Totally binge-worthy!
The Haunting of Hill House : If you like scary and dark, WATCH THIS. This show follows a family, who years ago moved into a house that was very haunted. As now adults, the house still haunts them and they are forced to face the ghosts of their past. If you enjoy a good ghost story like I do, then you will LOVE this show. This is not only a great horror show, but the writing is done so well and the storyline is actually a really great one.
Friends : I don’t think this one needs much introduction lol. This 90s show is about a group of 6 friends and their relationships and lives in NYC. This is just a feel-good show that will always make you laugh and bring a smile to your face. You easily fall in love with all of the characters and their relationships with each other, you almost feel like you know them in real life. This is a timeless show that will ALWAYS be good no matter what.
Cheers : Ahh, Cheers. Jacob and I actually just started this show from the beginning and we are HOOKED. It’s set in the early 80s, and that’s honestly one of my favorite things about it. The way they talk, the way they dress, their humor….all of it is just so nostalgic and I love it. Sam is a former baseball player who owns his own bar, Cheers. All of his staff have such different personalities, yet they all mesh together so well. It’s amazing how the whole show is set in a bar, yet can still have a storyline and be so funny. Just a classic, great sitcom to watch.
Gilmore Girls : Set in the CUTEST small town in Connecticut, Stars Hollow, this show is about a mother and daughter who are basically best friends. It takes you through their life together as Rory (who is incredibly smart) goes through high school and then ultimately goes off to college. It is full of love, laughter, drama, heartbreak, humor, and lots of dry sarcasm. This is just one of those light-hearted, feel good shows that never gets old.
Seven Seconds : This is such a great suspenseful crime drama. A 15 year old boy is hit while riding his bike, and to top it off, the driver is a new cop who tries to cover it up and make it look like it was someone else. This show takes you through the aftermath of everything and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. This show does have a racial theme to it, so if that’s not your thing, then maybe skip this one. But gosh, it’s so good!
That’s it for my list! I plan to do another post soon about my favorite documentaries (which is why they weren’t included in this post), and also a post about my all-time favorite shows on any streaming service, not just Netflix. So keep a look out for those coming soon! I post everything on my Instagram page, so come follow along there if you aren’t already. Thank you guys for reading and if you have any other Netflix suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments!
