Good morning, friends! Yesterday I shared my full morning skincare routine on my IG story and I got so many questions about the products, and specifically what each one does to help my skin. So I figured I would put together an entire post dedicated to my routine with all the products as well as how each one benefits my skin. A few of the products change periodically, like my moisturizer and eye cream, because I love trying new products for my skin, but the process will almost always stay the same!
Step 1: Cleanse
The very first thing you should do in the morning aside from brushing your teeth is WASH YOUR FACE! Your skin goes through so much during the night and in the morning your skin is left with dirt, sweat, and bacteria. My all time favorite cleanser is the Murad Renewing Cleansing Cream. I have been using this for at least 5 years! This deep cleans my skin while also making it soft, smooth, and clear. It also removes makeup, so that’s a huge plus! Every few days, I use the Aveeno Positively Radiant Scrub to get off any dead skin cells and this leaves my skin looking really bright and radiant.
Step 2: Tone
A ton of questions I got yesterday was “what does toning do for your skin?” A few of the benefits are: it helps with shrinking and tightening your pores, balancing the skin, and provides a ton of moisture. My personal favorite toner is the LUSH Eau Roma Water. I have been using this for YEARS and will never stop. I spray it directly onto my face after cleansing and let it air dry.
Step 3: Moisturizer + Face Oil
After your toner has dried, it’s time to moisturize the skin. I personally love trying new moisturizers, so I am currently not married to a certain one. However, I do like my moisturizers to be very hydrating and not super thick because I have normal – dry skin. There are a couple I have been loving lately, but one of them isn’t available to buy anymore for some reason, so the moisturizer that resembles it almost exactly is the Tarte Drink of H20. I LOVE this moisturizer and I actually think I may pick it up next. I used to use it a while back and have just been trying new products since, but I miss it!
When I know I’m going to be in the sun, I have been using the Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer with SPF 30. I do like this product, however I’ve noticed that sometimes when it’s TOO hot outside and I start sweating, it sort of sits on top of my skin which I don’t prefer. So sometimes instead of using this, I will just add a sunscreen on top of my other moisturizer. The two sunscreens for my face that I have been loving are the Riversol SPF 30 (more of a hydrating finish) and the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen (more of a velvety, matte finish).
A step I NEVER skip when I moisturize is adding 2-3 drops of the Tarte Maracuja Oil to my moisturizer. A popular question I was getting on stories was “what does a face oil do for your skin?” Adding a face oil to your skincare routine helps with preventing fine lines and wrinkles, balances and hydrates the skin (which helps prevent break outs), shrinks the pores, and helps with sun damage and/or scarring. Adding in an oil is of course great for those who have dry skin, but using a face oil is really important for oily skin as well! I think lots of people who have oily skin avoid face oils because they think it will make the problem worse. But it’s actually quite the opposite! Using the right face oil will actually help to balance your skin and control the excess oil. And the Tarte Maracuja Oil is great for all skin types, so I would highly recommend trying this, even if you have oily skin!
Step 4: Eye Cream
Eye cream is another product that I like to experiment with and try different brands, but since the skin around my eyes is more on the dry side, a hydrating eye cream is a must for me. The one I am currently loving is the Rodan + Fields Redefine Eye Cream. Another one I’ve tried in the past is the Fresh Black Tea Age Delay Concentrate (which is actually my #1 favorite eye cream that I’ve used so far). Both of these provide my under eyes with a lot of hydration and they sit well under my concealer, which is a must for me! To be honest, I have never found a drug store eye cream that I like. Eye cream is something that I will splurge on because that is the area of the face that starts aging the fastest. Using an eye cream will help prevent fine lines, wrinkles, crows feet, and bags and dark circles (depending on the type you get).
Make sure when you apply the eye cream, you aren’t tugging on the eye area and you pat the product in gently with your ring finger. Also, be sure to bring the cream up to the side of your eye as well, where crows feet form.
Step 5: Lip Balm
And the last and final step to my morning skincare routine is moisturizing the lips! I sometimes even apply lip balm after toning, but it’s all personal preference. My all time favorite products for the lips are the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, Smith’s Minted Rose Balm, and the Aquaphor Healing Ointment. You can’t go wrong with any of these, but if I had to choose my favorite it would be the Laneige, hands down! I know it’s called a sleeping mask, but I love using it during the day too. It’s SO moisturizing and makes my lips so soft!
And that’s it! I know this is a longer post, but I wanted to explain it all in detail so that y’all know why I like each product and what certain things do for my skin. But overall, my morning routine is so simple and quick and never changes! I plan to show y’all my nighttime routine really soon, which includes a few more steps, so be on the lookout for that on stories and here on my blog! I hope this was helpful and if you have any questions either leave them here in the comments or come visit me on Instagram!
Thank y’all for reading!!
