Happy Friday, friends! I’m excited to say that I’ve recently teamed up with Simple Glam Girls as an ambassador for their oval makeup brushes! They were kind enough to give me a discount code for my followers and readers to use on their entire website. If you use my code (KRISTLE20), you will get 20% off your entire purchase!
Yesterday, I had a chance to try out their 10 piece set, and I really love them! I know that to some people, oval brushes are a bit intimidating, as they were to me when I first tried them a while back, so I thought I would share what I personally use each brush for. I think oval brushes are great because of their ability to blend so seamlessly. See below for my break down of the set and some after pics!
Brush 1. Foundation: This brush works great for blending your foundation, especially stick foundation. Apply the foundation to your skin and blend it with the brush, using circular and small swiping motions.
Brush 2. Foundation or Powder: I personally prefer Brush 1 for liquid or stick foundation because it covers a bigger area, but this one could be used for the same thing if you want something a little smaller. I think this brush is great for powder, so I used it to set my T-Zone (forehead, around my nose, and chin). This brush would also be great if you’re a powder foundation kind of girl.
Brush 3. Concealer: I used this brush to blend out my concealer using small swiping and patting motions. I was a little nervous because I had never used an oval brush for concealer, but I was pleasantly surprised with how well it blended out the edges of my concealer with the rest of my foundation.
Brush 4. Set Concealer or Cream Contour: I dipped this brush into my setting powder and set my under eyes with it using small patting motions. This brush would also be great for blending out cream contour on your cheeks and forehead.
Brush 5. Detailed Blending: This brush is the perfect size and shape for blending out your foundation in small crevices where creasing happens, like around your nose, eyes, and laugh lines around your mouth. It’s also great for blending out cream contour on your nose.
Brush 6. Blending Eye Shadow: I used this brush for blending out the edges of my eye shadow and I LOVED it. If you use a really light hand, it blends eye shadows together beautifully so that there aren’t any harsh lines. The most important thing when it comes to eye shadow is to make sure the edges are blended, or else it just looks messy. This brush is perfect for that.
Brush 7. Covering Blemishes: This brush is great for applying and blending concealer over any blemishes you may have. Tip: conceal any blemishes before you apply foundation.
Brush 8. Cream Contour: This one is perfect for applying and blending out cream contour on your cheeks, forehead, and nose. Apply the contour with the tip, and then turn the brush on it’s side and use small strokes to blend it out.
Brush 9. Lower Lash Line Shadow: I love this brush for applying shadow to your lash line because of the pointed shape and small size. One thing I never skip when doing my makeup is applying some sort of shadow or bronzer to my lower lash line. It gives your eyes more dimension and instantly makes your eyes pop.
Brush 10. Eyeliner: This brush is best for applying shadow to your lid as eyeliner, or for blending out gel liner for a more smoky look.
This is how I personally use each brush, but they can be used in so many different ways depending on your own makeup application. That’s the great thing about them is that they are very versatile.
I would love to hear your thoughts on these brushes or any questions y’all might have about them in the comments! I hope everyone has a great weekend.
