HAPPY OCTOBER, FRIENDS! About a year ago, I wrote a blog post (scroll below) detailing how to achieve this easy, skull Halloween makeup:
Since I am now doing YouTube, I decided I would recreate this look, since tons of people loved it last year on my Instagram. While filming this video, I followed along with my blog post listed below and it really helped. I hope you find this video and blog post helpful. I really think this is such a great choice for Halloween if you’re looking for something quick and easy for a party or giving out candy!

Happy Friday the 13th! I thought today would be the perfect day to share a really simple Halloween look and share some of my tips for achieving it. With this makeup, you can just wear all black with some crazy hair and you’re good to go. Next weekend we’re headed to Vegas, and we want to do something “Halloweenish” on one of the nights, so I sat down today to practice and came up with this! And believe me, it’s much easier than it looks if you just follow my steps below!
I used the Jaclyn Hill Palette by Morphe for all of the shading and contouring. If you don’t have this palette, get it!
As long as you use similar shades, the outcome will be very similar.
STEP 1: Apply foundation to your face that is a few shades lighter than your skin tone and set your face with powder to make sure it has a matte finish.
STEP 2: Begin shading your eyes (refer to photo above).
- I started off with the colors checked off in BLACK to begin. You don’t have to use all 4 colors, but I wanted a very gradient, blended look, and using different shades really helps to achieve that. I messily blended them all over my eyes in the order they are in. As you can see, I blended up into my eyebrows, as well as above my eyebrows.
- I then dipped into the two cranberry shades checked off in WHITE and blended those on top of the lighter brown shades.
- I then deepened the color by adding in a couple of the dark brown shades checked off in YELLOW.
- The sparkly brown shade can be added to your lids.
- After your lids look the way you want them, repeat these steps on your lower lash line with the same colors.
- Add in black shadow. Dip a small detailed brush (like the one on the top right of the pic above) into the black shade and pack it into the hollows of your eyes, blending down towards your nose. Also add black to the outer corners of your eyes and on your lower lash line. Blend blend blend!
STEP 3: Apply a ton of black eyeliner to your upper and lower lash line. Tip: use gel or liquid eyeliner.
STEP 4: Begin shading your face (cheeks, nose, hairline).
- With a small blending brush, begin tracing out the chiseled cheeks with a light brown shadow. Tip: follow the natural shape of your cheekbones and curve inward, then down toward your mouth. Once you have the shape you want, begin dipping into darker shades (checked in YELLOW) and blending the darker shades, carving out the cheeks. You will also want to blend in some light brown shades to create the gradient look. Continue building these shades until you have the look you want.
- With the same detailed brush, blend dark brown shadow onto the sides of your nose, around the nose creases, right below your lip, on your temples, and around your hairline.
STEP 5: Color in your nose. Trace the shape you want with a liquid liner pen or eye shadow and fill in with black gel eyeliner.
STEP 6: Begin tracing out the teeth.
- I traced the teeth with a brown shadow and a tiny eyeliner brush to create the shape, then retraced them in black.
- I filled in the space between the teeth with the white shadows checked off in RED, and then retraced the teeth again to make them pop more.
STEP 7: Highlight the face. This step is optional, but I think it pulls the look together nicely. Add a very light colored powder or shadow to your cheeks, bridge of your nose, and forehead. This will bring those areas forward and make you look even more chiseled.

It may seem like a lot of steps and detail, but the key is really just building up the colors while shading and blending everything together.
